HISTORY

Joe McQuany, a pioneer in the recovery community, founded Serenity House in 1972. In 1990, it was renamed Serenity Park when it moved to the current location in Little Rock, AR on Roosevelt Road located next to a jail and across from a cemetery, which was fitting, as McQuany believed addicts have three eventualities: locked up, covered up, or sobered up. For 35 years until his death, McQuany made Serenity Park a place for addicts and alcoholics to receive world-class treatment and find sobriety.

In 1972, McQuany purchased the original building on Broadway and Roosevelt and bought the current location in 1990, which, at that time, provided 29 treatment beds. In 2009, a 16-bed women’s unit was completed and opened. McQuany passed away October 25, 2007. The treatment center remained in operation after Joe’s death, but closed in 2013.
